Peel — My Digital Closet
Peel turns your real wardrobe into a digital closet: photograph your clothes, and Peel cuts them out, recognises them, and lets you build outfits, plan what to wear on a calendar, pack for trips, and see what you actually wear. Everything stays on your device.

Frequently asked questions
- Do I need to cut out my photos myself?
- No — Peel removes the background automatically the moment you add a photo. If an edge needs a touch-up, use Adjust Cutout.
- What is AI Reshape?
- It redraws a garment as if worn — a clean, shaped product shot from a photo of clothes on your bed. It uses Apple Intelligence on supported iPhones (iPhone 15 Pro or newer with Apple Intelligence enabled). On other devices everything else in Peel works normally; only this feature is unavailable.
- What is AI Try-On?
- Add one full-body photo of yourself and Peel can show an outfit worn on you. The picture is generated through Apple’s technologies — on your device, or on Apple’s Private Cloud Compute under your own Apple Account — and is never sent to us. Your photo lives in the closet you added it to and is included in that closet’s backup file; you can replace or remove it at any time under Settings → My Try-On Photo, and erasing the closet deletes it too. It needs the same Apple Intelligence support as AI Reshape.
- Do I need an account?
- No. There is no sign-up and no login — open the app and start adding clothes. Peel works offline, on a plane, anywhere.
- Can my family use Peel too?
- Yes — thanks to Apple, not to us. Your purchase is tied to your Apple Account, so you can install Peel on your own devices at no extra cost, and Apple’s Family Sharing applies to paid apps automatically: buy Peel once, and the members of your Family Sharing group can download it free, each with their own separate closet on their own device. That’s Apple’s policy doing the work — we just don’t stand in its way. How it behaves is up to Apple; see Apple’s Family Sharing page for the details.
- Is my wardrobe visible to anyone else?
- It can’t be. There is no server and no account: your closet exists only on your device. See the Privacy Policy for the full picture.
- What are closets?
- A closet is a complete, separate wardrobe — its own items, outfits, calendar and history. Most people need only one, but you can add more in Settings → Closets (for a partner, a second home, or a season in storage) and switch between them at any time. Each closet is backed up separately.
- How do I back up my wardrobe?
- In the app: Settings → Back Up & Restore → Back Up to
iCloud. It writes one
.peelfile per closet into a “Peel” folder in your own iCloud Drive, replacing the previous copy. Peel also refreshes that backup quietly on its own whenever your closet has changed, so a recent copy is always there without you thinking about it. For a copy you keep or move yourself, Export to File… saves a separate, dated backup file anywhere you like — by default into “Peel → Manual Backups” — and never overwrites an earlier export; handy for AirDropping a closet to another device. If you have added a try-on photo, the backup includes it. - I got a new phone — how do I move my wardrobe?
- Usually you do nothing: transferring your old phone to the new one with Quick Start, or restoring it from an iPhone backup, brings Peel and all its data across automatically. If you started the new phone fresh instead, install Peel and use Settings → Back Up & Restore — your iCloud backups are listed there; tap one to restore it. (A backup you exported as a file is restored with Import from File… on the same page — the picker opens right in the Manual Backups folder.)
- I lost my phone. Is my wardrobe gone?
- Not if you have a backup. Install Peel on the new device, open
Settings → Back Up & Restore, and your
.peelbackups appear in the iCloud list ready to restore. (Erasing a lost phone remotely does not touch your iCloud Drive files.) If you never backed up and had no device backup, the data was only ever on that phone — which is the other side of the privacy promise. - Does restoring overwrite what I already have?
- Never. A restore always arrives as a new closet, even if a closet with the same name already exists — the newcomer simply gets a “(2)” after its name. Nothing you currently have is replaced or merged, so you can restore, look around, and delete whichever copy you don’t want.
- Can I use Peel on my iPhone and my iPad?
- Yes — Peel runs on both, and you can move a closet between them by backing up on one and restoring on the other (via iCloud Drive or AirDrop). Note that this is a copy, not a live link: changes made afterwards on one device don’t appear on the other. Continuous sync between devices may come in a future update.
- Can I add photos I already have?
- Yes. Add them from your photo library inside the app, or select up to ten photos in Photos, tap Share and choose Peel — then open Peel and it walks you through adding them one by one. You can also share a product page to Peel from Safari or any browser to grab the picture straight into your wish list.
- Does the in-app store browser keep history?
- Yes — a short local history of the shop pages you visit, so recent stores are easy to reopen, plus the ordinary website cookies any browser keeps (including a shop account you sign in to). All of it stays on your device, and Settings → Clear Browsing History wipes the history. Buying itself happens outside Peel: when a shop reaches its checkout, the payment page opens in Safari (or your default browser). That is a choice, not a limitation — we prefer Peel to have nothing to do with payments, and your own browser is where your saved cards and autofill already live.
- Does Peel use a lot of storage?
- It shouldn’t. Photos are stored as compact cutouts, and Peel cleans up its own temporary working files automatically. If the app’s storage shown in iOS Settings ever looks far larger than your closet could explain, write to us.
- How do I add the home-screen widget?
- Touch and hold your Home Screen, tap the + at the top, search for Peel, and choose a size. The outfit widget shows what you’ve planned for today (or a look from your closet if nothing is planned), and the tip widget shows a new Peel Tip each day. Tapping a widget opens the matching page in the app.
- If I delete the app, do my backups go too?
- No — and that’s deliberate. Deleting Peel removes what it stores on
the device, but your
.peelbackup files are ordinary documents in your iCloud Drive, so they stay right where they are. Reinstall Peel and they appear in the restore list again. (Only an export you saved into the app’s own “On My iPhone” folder is removed with the app.) If you want them gone as well, delete them in the Files app. - How do I delete my data?
- Deleting the app removes everything it stores on the device — see the previous answer for what happens to backups. To empty the closet you’re in without deleting the app, use Settings → Erase All Data — it erases that closet’s items, outfits, history and try-on photo, and deletes its automatic iCloud backup; other closets, and backups you exported yourself, are not touched. Backup files are ordinary documents — delete them in the Files app. Nothing needs to go through us, because we hold nothing.
